    The Transport Agency says a popular petition challenging changes to its winter roading policy, is incorrect


    The petition - to stop NZTA switching from snow chains to an open/close system in Arthur's and Porters passes - has hit 10-thousand signatures.

    But NZTA southern system manager Pete Connors says the creator has a few things wrong.

    He says it's based on the premise they'll close the road as soon as it snows - which is not so.

    Connors says they'll only close when the roads get icy - so fewer vehicles will be getting stuck.
