Censorship of parts of the internet may have been seen as a step too far

Censorship of parts of the internet may have been seen as a step too far

New Zealand First MP Tracey Martin's plan to restrict access to online pornography is now off the table.

She couldn't get cross-party support to bring legislation to Parliament this term.

But Internet NZ spokesman Andrew Cushen says says hampering parts of the internet can have its downfalls.

He says it's exactly against the internet's DNA, and there are some false positives as some useful content would be filtered out too.

Andrew Cushen says most internet providers have services to assist with ensuring kids are seeing safe content.
