Fonterra farmers who produce sustainable, high quality milk will soon be eligible for a new payment of up to 10 cents per kg of milksolids

The dairy giant says farmers would be eligible from next year, if they meet sustainability and value targets.

It says the strategy is aimed at adding value to New Zealand milk, due to increasing demand from customers for sustainably produced dairy.

The payment will be funded out of the farm gate milk price.
