South Coast residents are hunkering down for a windy night in Wellington

South Coast residents are hunkering down for a windy night in Wellington

MetService is predicting six-metre high waves -- with southerlies reaching 120-kilometres per hour.

Waves are three to four metres high at the moment, with a wind speed of 80 kilometres.

Wellington City Council teams are on call if evacuations need to happen overnight.

Massive waves of this nature hit the area unexpectedly earlier this year -- resulting in significant damage to properties along the Coast.
