    People hanging out to see the gannets in Hawke's Bay this summer - should try avoiding the beach route


    DOC is reopening Cape Kidnappers - which was closed after a landslide injured two tourists last year.

    But Doc's Hayden Barrett says the track is unpredictable, potentially hazardous.

    He says an alternative is an overland track that drops out near the gannet colony without having to walk along most of the beach.
