The Northern Explorer won't be making any stops until summer

The Northern Explorer won't be making any stops until summer

The train service, which runs between Auckland and Wellington, was paused indefinitely on March 22 due to Covid-19.

Kiwirail have made the decision to restore it -- but not until Christmas time.

CEO Greg Miller says priority was given to the Tranz Alpine route, which began three weeks ago.

He says as soon as the Northern fleet is maintained to a standard they're happy with -- they'll make an announcement in the near future about the timetable -- and the service type they're running.

The South Island's Coastal Pacific is due back in Spring.
