It's been revealed more Maori elders have been vaccinated for influenza this year - than ever before

It comes after a push from the Government to get more Maori vaccinated, who have historically had lower rates of immunisation than other ethnicities.

Associate Health Minister Julie Anne Genter says latest figures show that 58 percent of Maori aged 65 and over, are now protected against the flu.

This time last year it was only 45 percent, and was 43 percent in 2018.

Genter says innovative approaches like setting up pop-up clinics at places such as marae's and mobile clinics is what's behind the positive change.
