The Department of Conservation says the nearly 14 million dollars spent on restoring two of our best Great Walks shows the value Kiwis place on them

The Department of Conservation says the nearly 14 million dollars spent on restoring two of our best Great Walks shows the value Kiwis place on them

Fiordland's Milford and Routeburn Great Walks are open to trampers again this summer after a big February storm pummelled 440 kilometres of tracks.

DOC's Aaron Fleming says the tracks are in arguably the most stunning part of New Zealand.

He says the Government money recognises their iconic status around the world and the local businesses which rely heavily on them.

Bookings open again in mid-August with Milford to open on November 30 and Routeburn on December 7.
