Drug-smuggling kickboxer Karel Sroubek has been granted parole - and is being freed on September 7
18 August 2020
He first came to New Zealand in 2003, and in 2011, was found guilty of entering on a false passport - but was discharged without conviction.
In 2016, Sroubek was sentenced to five years and nine months in jail for smuggling MDMA into New Zealand.
The Parole Board's report states Sroubek has undertaken rehab with a psychologist, who says he has a low risk of re-offending.
His parole conditions include not possessing, using or consuming alcohol or controlled drugs, and he must be electronically monitored as directed by a probation officer.
Sroubek is subject to a "liability for deportation" order - but is appealing that with the Immigration Protection Tribunal.
