Fire crews had to be airlifted to Deep Water Basin from nearby Te Anau this morning.
The fire started around 4am - and the vessel's been extensively damaged.
An Environment Southland spokesperson says they had oil spill equipment on standby - but it wasn't needed.
They say luckily it was a steel-hulled boat - otherwise it could have burnt to the water line and released diesel and contaminants into the water.
