A multi-million dollar boost for local government infrastructure budgets - through GST returns

A multi-million dollar boost for local government infrastructure budgets - through GST returns

That's the promise from The Opportunities Party... it it gets into Parliament next month.

Under the policy, local councils would be returned GST on investment in new developments - to fix issues like wastewater pipe failures.

Leader Geoff Simmons says the cash would go into a fund - for which councils could apply to and present a business case for infrastructure spending in their area.

He says that would give local authorities about two-and-half billion dollars a year.
