Three people have taken been to hospital, after an overnight fire tore through a Queenstown apartment building

Three people have taken been to hospital, after an overnight fire tore through a Queenstown apartment building

The two-storey building on Huff Street went up in flames at around 2am, with nearby homes having to be evacuated.

Fire communications shift manager Brent Dunn says 25 firefighters from across the region helped contain the blaze by about 4am.

He says two crews remain at the scene, and a fire investigator is also in attendance.

One of those hospitalised is in a moderate condition - the other two have minor injuries.

The building is said to be badly damaged.
