Chrissy Teigen and John Legend share the loss of their baby after complications in pregnancy

American model and television personality Chrissy Teigen, wife of singer John Legend, says they are in "shock" and "deep pain" after complications in her pregnancy led to the loss of their baby.

American model and television personality Chrissy Teigen announced on social media that complications in her pregnancy had led to the loss of her baby.

Teigen and her husband, Grammy-award winning singer John Legend, said they were in "shock" and "in the kind of deep pain you only hear about … [and] never felt before".

In an Instagram post, Teigen said doctors were not able to stop her bleeding and give her baby the fluids he needed, "despite bags and bags of blood transfusions".

"It just wasn't enough," she wrote.

The couple announced they were expecting their third child in Legend's latest music video released in August.

Since then, Teigen has been sharing her pregnancy journey with more than 44.6 million of her followers on social media.

She has been vocal about complications during her pregnancy.

This week, she posted on Instagram that she was hospitalised after bleeding for weeks.

"We never decide on our babies' names until the last possible moment after they're born, just before we leave the hospital," Teigen wrote in her post.

"But we, for some reason, had started to call this little guy in my belly Jack. So he will always be Jack to us.

"Jack worked so hard to be a part of our little family, and he will be, forever."

Teigen shared the news alongside several photos of her on a hospital bed, including one of her and her husband holding what looks like a baby wrapped in a blanket in her arms.

She said thank you to everyone who had been sending the family their thoughts and prayers.

"We are so grateful for the life we have, for our wonderful babies Luna and Miles, for all the amazing things we've been able to experience," she wrote.

"But every day can't be full of sunshine.

"On this darkest of days, we will grieve, we will cry our eyes out. But we will hug and love each other harder and get through it."
