A possible silver lining for the Maori Party if Labour doesn't come calling for coalition talks

A possible silver lining for the Maori Party if Labour doesn't come calling for coalition talks

Rawiri Waititi looks set to claim the seat of Waiariki - he's ahead of Labour's Tamati Coffey by around 415 votes - with special votes still to be counted.

New Zealand Maori Council executive director Matthew Tukaki says regardless of whether Labour comes knocking, the Maori Party gets resources it hasn't had in the past three years to continue its rebuild.

He says if this Government doesn't perform then Maori will move back to the Maori Party.
