Ciara and Russell Wilson are funding a new school

The 'Body Party' hitmaker are using their Why Not You Foundation to fund a charter school in Seattle, Washington. The couple are donating $1.75 million to the school, previously known as Cascade Midway Academy

They said in a statement: "We’ve always held the belief that life’s successes start with a good education, but recognise that access isn’t always created equally for all. The Why Not You Foundation was created with the concept of empowering youth to lead with a why not you attitude and that’s why it was important for our foundation to partner with Scott, Garth, and Cascade Public Schools to help open doors for kids from less fortunate backgrounds. This school is a longtime dream of ours and it was important for us to find a way to combine traditional classroom learning with community and mentorship-based activities, in order to prepare kids for the real world. Why Not You is based on the idea that it can start with one and our hope is that this school will be the first of many."

Following the donation, the Academy will change its name to the Why Not You Academy.

Ciara recently welcomed her third child, her second with husband Russell Wilson, back in July, and she previously revealed she had to look to find the "silver lining" whilst pregnant through the COVID pandemic.

The 34-year-old singer shared: "I think my biggest mission or focal point was to try my best to always find the silver lining through it all, and to find the positive moments. I think you have to take a step back and think about it. The reality is it’s a blessing and a gift to be able to give birth, so if you think about that, that kind of supersedes everything ... When we were learning about COVID, I was always looking for articles that would talk about infants when they're born, and there wasn’t a lot of articles about that, so for me, I was like, I’m going to be one of those moms that are in the experimental phase of it all, too, to see what happens. So it’s definitely been a memorable one, an unforgettable experience ... It's a balancing act, and I will say, there’s a saying it takes a village. Whether it's your mom, whether it's your sister, if there's some way I encourage people to also have that person help, if possible."
