    The rise of a popular fitness craze has helped grow the sport of weightlifting in New Zealand


    126 athletes competed at the recent weightlifting national championships - with 57 per cent of them female.

    NZ high performance weightlifting director Simon Kent says it shows a continued rise in the number of competitors in recent years.

    He says the increase is easily explained.
