Counties Manukau Police have been given temporary permission to carry firearms after a spate of shootings over the weekend

Counties Manukau Police have been given temporary permission to carry firearms after a spate of shootings over the weekend

Five houses in South Auckland have been shot at since Friday, and several vehicles intentionally smashed.

No one is reported to have been injured.

Extra staff have been deployed around Auckland and investigators are said to be working around the clock to establish the circumstances of each event, identify who was involved, and what link if any there may be between each of the incidents.

The permit for Counties Manukau Police to carry firearms is being reviewed regularly.
