The 32-year-old was charged with the murder of 16-year-old Amber-Rose Rush in February, 2018.
Skantha's lawyers argue a teenager who drove Skantha to Rush's house, should be treated as a murder suspect.
Herald reporter Melissa Nightingale says it's fairly quiet in the courtroom.
She says Rush's brother and his partner are there, but there's not a lot of emotion being expressed.
