Waikato's dominated the opening day of the interprovincial golf championships at Auckland's Whitford Park course

They're the only team to pick up wins from both matches, beating Poverty Bay and Bay of Plenty.

Southland's gone undefeated, halving their first game against Bay of Plenty before beating North Harbour 3-2.

Defending champions Auckland had a first round bye before dispatching Poverty Bay 5-nil.
