Kelly Clarkson has hinted at a possible reason behind her split from Brandon Blackstock

The 38-year-old pop star filed for divorce earlier this year, and during an appearance on her talk show, Kelly alluded to a possible cause for their split as she reflected on a tumultuous 2020

The 'Because of You' hitmaker - who has Remington, four, and River, six, with Brandon - shared: "I'm grateful in 2020 for the lesson I learned about ... myself."

Kelly subsequently elaborated on her statement, perhaps hinting at the reason for her split from Brandon.

She continued: "Even at 38, I feel like I'm always changing and progressing in a good sense, in a good way. And I always want to make sure I'm being the best version of myself."

Kelly also revealed that her mother Jeanne has always been a big influence on her decisions.

She said: "My mom has been telling me since I was a kid: you are who you surround yourself with.

"You want to make sure you're surrounded by people that also want to be the best versions of themselves and also want a good common goal for everyone, not just themselves, right?

"People, like, could be bad for you in a certain time. And I think that everybody just goes, 'Oh, well that means they're bad.' Well it doesn't necessarily mean that, it just means that you're on different paths. And I think that that's okay.

"Everybody's on a different learning curve."

Kelly previously insisted she wouldn't be truly transparent about her divorce because she's determined to protect her kids.

The pop star said in September: "I am a very open person, but I'm not going to be able to be truly open about this in certain aspects because there's kids involved."
