Bay of Islands Police are urging a witness to a death in Opua to come forward

22-year-old Bram Willems was fatally stabbed near the Roadrunner Tavern last Thursday night.

A 14-year-old boy will appear at the High Court in Whangarei on February 4 - charged with murder.

After watching CCTV, police believe a woman saw an altercation outside Work and Income on Kawakawa's main street about 10pm.

A spokesperson says the person wasn't involved in the incident.

Police also want to hear about sightings of a silver Toyota Altezza, number plate MQE620, in the area late on Thursday and early Friday.
