    US politics updates: Donald Trump impeached for the second time, Joe Biden says House of Representatives 'followed their conscience'

    President-elect Joe Biden says members of the House of Representatives, including 10 Republicans, "followed the constitution and their conscience" in impeaching President Donald Trump over inciting an "unprecedented assault on democracy".


    President-elect Joe Biden has released a statement following the historic vote in the US House of Representatives in which 10 Republicans crossed the floor to vote with Democrats and impeach Donald Trump.

    Mr Biden said Representatives "followed the constitution and their conscience", adding that he hoped Senate leadership would "find a way to deal with their constitutional responsibilities on impeachment while also working on the other urgent business of this nation".
