Tamanini and Uputaua Muaiava have been sentenced in the Papakura District Court.
Tamanini was sentenced to 21 months imprisonment, while Uputaua received nine months home detention.
Inland Revenue spokesperson Tony Morris says Tamanini persistently evaded tax obligations.
He says when the couple were confronted about one company's failure to pay tax, the company would be wound up and a new one incorporated to continue trading.
It's estimated the couple skipped out on more than 430-thousand-dollars of tax.
