An economic risk for every country ... if developing countries miss out on covid 19 vaccines

An economic risk for every country ... if developing countries miss out on covid 19 vaccines

An International Chamber of Commerce study has found inadequate access to vaccines in developing countries could cost the global economy as much as 9.2 trillion dollars.

Developed countries will shoulder about half that cost.

Chamber Secretary General John Denton says wealthy countries have an ethical, and economic imperative -- to support the global Covax vaccine programme.

He says Japan, Canada, Australia and the EU could do more -- and need to step up and pay up, to cover the programme's costs.

Denton says America's Biden administration also needs to contribute more than it currently plans to.
