Sir Billy Connolly has been vaccinated against COVID-19

The 78-year-old comedian has received the first of his two jabs against the virus, according to his wife Pamela Stephenson

Alongside a photo of Billy following the vaccination, Pamela - who has been married to the stand-up star since 1989 - wrote on Twitter: "Thank God... Billy had his first Covid vaccine today! (sic)"

In the photo, Billy is seen sitting with a band-aid on his left arm and a mask covering his mouth shortly after receiving the vaccine.

Pamela, 71, didn't reveal which of the different vaccines Billy received, but he'll be due a second jab in the coming weeks.

The comedy star suffers from Parkinson's disease and recently admitted he's already made peace with death.

Billy insisted that in spite of his declining health, he's determined to remain positive.

He shared: "It's got me, it will get me and it will end me, but that's OK with me."

Billy and Pamela now live in Florida, where he's spent time working on his autobiography.

Pamela said: "What he wants to do is take it easy, he wants to fish on his dock in Florida, and enjoy the sunshine, watch television and drink tea and eat biscuits, that's what he wants to do."

Billy - who was born in Glasgow - previously confessed that quitting comedy was the "right thing to do" in light of his declining health.

He said: "Since the Parkinson's I'm still the same in many ways, but I don't think as sharply as I need to to be a stand-up, I've done 50 years and that's plenty. Quitting is the right thing to do.

"I achieved everything I wanted, played everywhere I wanted to ... I did it all."
