Guy Appleton has been sentenced to two years, seven months' in prison for the manslaughter of Clayton Graves, over a boating incident in Tauranga.
Mr Graves died after the boat Appleton was driving while intoxicated hit a beacon at Stoney Point.
Maritime New Zealand's Michael-Paul Abbott says this incident clearly highlights, boating and alcohol do not mix.
He says people should avoid having any alcohol before getting behind the wheel of a vessel.
