Police are out in force in Te Awamutu today, following an aggravated robbery that forced a school and early childhood centre into lockdown

Emergency services were called to reports of a burglarly on Te Rahu Road about 2.30 yesterday afternoon.

The nearby Pekerau School and an early childhood centre were told to keep pupils inside, due to concerns the offenders may have been armed.

One person has been arrested and Police are continuing to look for another.

The arrested male is due to appear in Hamilton Youth Court today on an aggravated burglarly charge.

Police will also be patrolling the area, to offer reassurance to locals.
