Weekday patrols have wrapped up at Auckland's Muriwai and Piha beaches following a busy season

Lifeguards at these beaches saved 16 out of the 138 lives saved across the NorthernrRegion.

Surf Life Saving Northern Region CEO Matt Williams says the numbers are heading in the right direction.

He says it shows lifeguards are interacting with the public at the right times.
