Sir Ringo Starr credits his vegetarian diet with helping him keep his youthful looks

The 80-year-old Beatles legend wowed audiences over the weekend when he appeared on stage at the Grammy Awards to hand the Record of the Year gong to Billie Eilish and her brother Finneas O’Connell, as many viewers were surprised at how good the musician looks for his age

And Ringo has now said he’s loved all the compliments he’s been receiving, as he credited his diet of “berries, fruit, vegetables, and salad” with keeping him fit.

He said: “I know, at my age. I just get up in the morning and this is what you get.

“I tend to work out and keep as busy as I can. I’m a vegetarian, I eat lots of berries, lots of fruit and lots of vegetables and salad.”

Despite the tried and tested method of getting plenty of beauty sleep to stay youthful, Ringo hates going to bed early, and never hits the hay before midnight.

Speaking to Zoe Ball on BBC Radio 2, he said: “I don’t like to go to bed before midnight.”

Meanwhile, Ringo previously insisted his youthful glow was thanks to “broccoli and blueberries”.

He said before his 80th birthday last year: "I am a vegetarian, I have broccoli with everything and blueberries every morning. I just do stuff that I feel is good for me."

The ‘Hey Jude’ hitmaker added that he is "only 24" mentally and he thinks that making music keeps him feeling like a young man.

Pointing to his head, Ringo said: "Man, I'm only 24 in here. And I'm still doing what I love to do. I'm still in the music business."

Ringo was unable to have a party for his birthday last year because of the COVID-19 pandemic, but hosted a special livestream benefit show to mark the occasion.

The rock star - who has held special 'Peace and Love' celebratory concerts to mark his birthday on July 7 for the past 12 years - brought together the likes of Sheryl Crow and his former Beatles bandmate Sir Paul McCartney for the star-studded home event, which raised money for Black Lives Matter Global Network, MusiCares, The David Lynch Foundation and WaterAid.
