A Wellington man has been convicted of raping a woman - after he removed a condom during sex without consent

A Wellington man has been convicted of raping a woman - after he removed a condom during sex without consent

Detective Senior Sergeant Haley Ryan says it's the first known conviction in Aotearoa for this type of offending.

Victoria University's Dr Samantha Keene says the conviction recognises consent doesn't remain if protection is removed without permission.

Keene says survivors and offenders may not be aware this is considered a sexual violation.
