Justin Theroux and Jennifer Aniston have “remained friends” following their divorce in 2017

The former couple split four years ago after two years of marriage, and although they’re no longer romantically involved, Justin has insisted they still “call each other” and have remained close friends

Speaking to Esquire magazine, he said: "I would say we've remained friends. We don't talk every day, but we call each other. We FaceTime. We text. Like it or not, we didn't have that dramatic split, and we love each other. I'm sincere when I say that I cherish our friendship.

“We can not be together and still bring each other joy and friendship. Also, she makes me laugh very, very hard. She's a hilarious person. It would be a loss if we weren't in contact, for me personally. And I'd like to think the same for her."

Justin and Jennifer, 52, began dating in 2011 and tied the knot in 2015 before splitting two years later.

The pair waited until 2018 to go public with their breakup news, and Justin previously said their separation had been “gentle”.

He explained: "The good news is that was probably the most - I'm choosing my words really carefully - it was kind of the most gentle separation, in that there was no animosity.

"Again, neither one of us is dead, neither one of us is looking to throw hatchets at each other. It's more like, it's amicable. It's boring, but, you know, we respected each other enough that it was as painless as it could be."

However, the 49-year-old actor and the ‘Friends’ star still found their split “heartbreaking”.

Justin added: "It was heartbreaking, only in the sense that the friendship would not be the same, as far as just the day to day. But the friendship is shifting and changing, you know, so that part is something that we're both very proud of."
