Kiwis travelling in their own backyard have resulted in a boost in tourism and retail spending

Kiwis travelling in their own backyard have resulted in a boost in tourism and retail spending

Tourism card spending has soared past pre-Covid levels -- up 25 per cent for the year ending April 2021, compared with the previous year.

All regions saw growth, apart from Auckland.

Retail NZ Chief Executive Greg Harford says Aucklanders are travelling around the country and contributing to an upswing of retail spending too.

He says while international visitors spend on tourism activities, domestic tourists are more likely to spend in retail alongside those experiences.
