Jesse Tyler Ferguson has assured fans that he’s “just fine” after a skin cancer scare

Taking to Instagram, the 'Modern Family' star posted a photo of himself with a surgical dressing on his neck after a visit to the dermatologist found he had a small patch of cancerous skin

He urged his 2.9 million followers to "stay up to date" with check-ups especially if “you’re fair like me”.

He wrote: "Reminder to stay up to date on your dermatology checks … especially if you’re fair like me. I always wind up getting something taken from me, every time I go.

"Today, they took a bit of skin cancer that they found. Don’t worry, I got it early and I’m gonna be just fine. (and, wear sunscreen! SPF 1000 for me!)"

His husband Justin Mitika echoed the actor's sentiment and insisted Jessie, 45, will be having monthly dermatologist appointments from here on in.

Justin said: "Gotta keep you around forever. Derm appointments once a month!"

Jesse is not the only star to spread the message about the importance of getting regular checks for skin cancer.

Having been treated for skin cancer on more than six occasions Hugh Jackman has stressed the importance of regular check-ups, especially if you skipped on sunscreen as a youngster.

In a video posted on social media, he previously said: “I recommend getting a skin check - regularly. I know I’ve said it before, I know I may be boring you with this, but it’s super easy to do and it’s really, really important to be preemptive with these things. “If you’re like me and you didn’t really know any better when you were young and you didn’t wear sunscreen and you were in the Australian sun, then you need to get a check up even more. But if not - it doesn’t matter who you are - next time you are with your doctor or with a specialist, just say, ‘Can you please give me a skin check?’ At least once a year - just do it.”
