Phil Twyford was stripped of the Housing portfolio in 2019 - amid the much-maligned failures of Kiwibuild.
Labour's Te Atatu MP then lost Transport, as well as Economic and Urban Development, after last year's election.
Twyford says being a minister outside of Cabinet means there's still plenty to get his teeth into.
He says it's obviously less pressured and high profile - but there are great opportunities to do the hard yards.
