The threat of another widespread power outage in the North Island's passed

The threat of another widespread power outage in the North Island's passed

Transpower says more generation has been offered and demand has dropped after it issued a warning this afternoon.

The only lights to go out are near where a wire fell from a tower in North Canterbury - which spurred Transpower's alert.

Repair work will go ahead overnight and should be finished by tomorrow afternoon, regardless of the alert level change.

Power was cut to nearly 18-thousand North Island homes last Monday, after providers were asked to ease demand.
