The head of the Wellington Chamber of Commerce expects the capital's businesses to bounce back after the change in alert levels

Data released by the chamber reveals spending in the Wellington region dipped to just over 60 percent of its usual rate during alert level three.

In the city it was nearly half of normal spending.

Wellington Chamber of Commerce Chief Executive Simon Arcus says reflecting on last year's lockdown, gives some hope for businesses.

He says like last time they expect a lot of Wellington businesses to recover from the impacts of covid-19.
