A driver has left a trail of destruction in an Auckland suburb

A driver has left a trail of destruction in an Auckland suburb

The person was spotted speeding along Dominion Road about 1.30 this morning, and lost control of the vehicle at the intersection with Mount Albert Road.

Police say the vehicle rolled, hit power poles and the front of a building and the sole occupant died at the scene.

Local man Ganesh Goundar says a window in his house was broken by a piece of concrete, and says there was damage to four other properties.

He says the car crashed into two fences, hit a hibiscus plant and a big tree.

    The road has now reopened.
