Del Rey - ranked 392nd in the world - carded a 58 including in round two of eight birdies and three eagles over the par-72 Golf Saint Apollinaire course in France.
It was two better than the four previous 58s on major tours that had been set on par-70 courses.
This was also the second time a 58 has been fired in 2021 after South Korea's Kim Seong-Hyeon achieved the feat in the final round of May's Golf Partner Pro-Am Tournament on the Japan Tour.
