A change in how the health system deals with Covid-19 cases, hinges on vaccinations

Worst-case scenario modelling sees Auckland and Northland getting more than five-thousand cases a week.

But officials believe the majority will be treated at home, with daily monitoring.

Health Minister Andrew Little says timing on that will be driven by vaccine coverage.

He says the closer we get to 90 percent, is when we can start making decisions on what happens next.

Little says he's confident hospitals can deal with any case surges, with DHBs able to offer an extra 550 beds across the country.
