A burst water main drained hundreds of litres of water a second ... from a Wellington reservoir last night

The 200 millimetre water main at the Newlands reservoir burst at ten fifteen, triggering an auto shut off valve at 10.22pm.

In those seven minutes, nearly 110 thousand litres of water were lost - cutting supply to Newlands.

Wellington Water spokesperson Ian Dennis says most water was restored by 1am today
