Police recruits will be among those staffing Northland's border, over the holiday period

Police recruits will be among those staffing Northland's border, over the holiday period

Two northbound checkpoints are being set up south of Whangarei from Wednesday by police and Tai Tokerau Border Control.

Police says 46 recruits will assist on the checkpoints for one week, but won't have powers of arrest.

46 constabulary staff who've just graduated Police College will help the week after.

They say this'll help best utilise police resources over what's expected to be a very busy holiday season.

They'll be working alongside experienced staff, so people will be on hand to help if there are any issues.
