Children with poorly controlled asthma are more likely to be hospitalised with Covid-19

Children with poorly controlled asthma are more likely to be hospitalised with Covid-19

The Scottish study published in the Lancet, showed children who had been hospitalised for asthma in the previous two years were six times more likely to be hospitalised with Covid.

The Asthma and Respiratory Foundation says it suggests this group should be prioritised for vaccination.

Foundation medical director Dr James Fingleton says it also shows the importance of controlling asthma.

Dr Fingleton says if there are people with children who are having many symptoms or have had hospitalisations in the last year or so it might be worth re-assessing their medication.
