    Police in the Coromandel are dishing out dozens of fines and making arrests for disorderly behaviour


    One person was arrested after Whangamata police were pelted with bottles last night in Williamson Park - and 36 others were fined for breaching the liquor ban..

    38 people were fined for the same offence around the Pauanui Surf Club.

    Acting Senior Sergeant Terri Wilson says the majority of the people causing trouble are visitors to the area.

    He says it's disappointing they have so little regard for the local community

    Wilson is urging people to celebrate safely tonight ... otherwise they might find themselves welcoming in 2022 in a police cell.

    Police are reviewing CCTV footage and say further arrests are possible.
