One returning Silver Fern has received a tick of approval from coach Dame Noeline Taurua amid a heavy defeat for New Zealand to open their Quad Series in London

They've been blown out by Australia 53-39, falling behind by as many as 18.

Taurua was pleased with the return of defender Kayla Johnson, who played her first international in nearly four years.

Fellow defender Phoenix Karaka also made her return inside the final five minutes of the game.

The Silver Ferns play England in their second match tomorrow morning.
