Asthma and Respiratory Foundation chief executive Letitia Harding says in the past they've found respiratory hospitalisations for children peaked in week three of the first term.
She says there was a higher rate then, than in the winter period when you'd expect more.
Harding says there's a variety of triggers, including stress and anxiety, and pollen.
She says parents should make sure children with asthma are taking their preventer inhaler, that it's not expired, and they're aware of their asthma.
