Around six-thousand Vector customers are without power in Auckland after the weekend's severe weather

Around six-thousand Vector customers are without power in Auckland after the weekend's severe weather

The bulk of those are in the rural north and west of the region and around 1000 are on island communities such as Kawau and Waiheke.

Vector Operations and Maintenance Manager Marko Simunac says the focus today is completing restoration of the backbone of the network - the fastest way to get power back on for large numbers of households.

People in other parts of the country are also without power including in Northland, Hamilton and the North Island.
