A rhino at Auckland Zoo has been euthanised after a sudden, untreatable illness

20-year-old African white rhino Inkosi suddenly stopped eating and became extremely lethargic last weekend.
A examination and blood tests indicated the Rhino had signs of kidney failure.
Treatments failed to help and additional tests showed his condition had worsened so he was euthanised on Wednesday.
Inkosi came to Auckland Zoo from Hamilton Zoo in 2007 and the team who cared for him says he was an exceptionally lovely rhino.
The zoo still has three remaining rhinos and one is due to give birth this spring.
