Firefighters are keeping a close eye on the Awarua fire - as dry conditions put it at risk of re-ignition

Firefighters are keeping a close eye on the Awarua fire - as dry conditions put it at risk of re-ignition

Crews have been extinguishing hotspots to prevent the spreading outside the control lines.

Conservation Minister Kiri Allan also visited the fire ground yesterday for a briefing on the management of the blaze.

Incident Controller Julian Tohiariki says the fireground remains closed to the public until after Easter at the earliest.

He says this week is likely to be dry and windy - which increases the risk of re-ignition and spread.
