The East Coast is preparing for another major storm

The East Coast is preparing for another major storm

Severe weather watches and warnings have been issued for the entire North Island, as the remnants of ex-tropical cyclone Fili pass near the country.

The worst weather is expected in Northland, Auckland, Great Barrier Island, the Coromandel Peninsula, Bay of Plenty, Rotorua, the Gisborne District and Hawke's Bay.

MetService metereologist Rob Kerr says the system is likely to pass near the same places as last month's severe weather system.

MetService has also issued heavy rain watches and warnings for Fiordland and Westland.
