Concerns compulsory school education on sexual consent .... would be a band-aid for a larger issue

Concerns compulsory school education on sexual consent .... would be a band-aid for a larger issue

The Government yesterday provided resources for teaching new relationships and sexuality education - including consent, digital safety and healthy relationships.

It comes alongside calls for mandatory consent education in schools.

Otago University's Melanie Beres says consent education won't solve sexual violence.

She says the sexual violence problem isn't about people not knowing how to communicate about sex - so it's a surface level solution to a deeper problem.
